| And now a heartwarming story from National CEC...
We have returned from
the national CEC award ceremony and Grayson has written a little
piece for your website. I had him write it in a format they were
using at school because he likes the structure. What an awe
inspiring experience the ceremony was! The accomplishments of the
children were truly what life is all about. Thank you for
helping us to attend, it was an experience none of us will ever
forget. Sincerely, Janna

Springs, Colorado Recently, I
received the Yes, I Can! International Award from the Council for
Exceptional Children (CEC). This is an award given to children with
exceptionalities. My award was for academics in the field of science
and the poetry I have written. The award ceremony was held in
Louisville, Kentucky on April 20th, 2007. The CEC paid for our
flight to the Louisville airport, then for our hotel room. I was one
of 27 winners from USA, Canada, and Australia. I felt very
nervous, especially during the ceremony. I was still in shock that I
was to receive this award. When I got there and found that President
George Bush had written me a letter, I realized that whether I liked
him or not, this was a great honor. It is still very slowly sinking
in that I have received such an auspicious award. I'm very surprised
that I won, but I'm not proud of myself because I feel that this is
just who I am. I
think that what helped me to win was that I was hired by the county
extension agent to help with identifying the grasshoppers in the
grasshopper infestation. Because of this I got on Denver's 9news,
the radio and in the paper. I also gave a lecture to the Colorado
Native Plant Society about grasshoppers. These are the activities
that I enjoy doing, so if this wins me an award, I guess that's just
a bonus.
