Student Council for Exceptional Children
Auraria UNC UCCS
Student Council for Exceptional Children strives
to reinforce CEC's mission to support special
education professionals and others working on
behalf of individuals with exceptionalities.
The student chapters are committed to improving
the skills and knowledge base of future and
current professionals working with students with
special needs. Through monthly meetings,
teachers and teacher candidates are offered the
opportunity to engage in open discussion on
current issues in education and exceptional
students. Discussions are enhanced by the
invitation of guest speakers and experts. As
part of the advocacy component, chapters raise
awareness of the field through awards,
symposiums, and speaker events.

January 20, 2012 -- Affective Needs Conference. Ross Greene was
our keynote speaker, and we had about 350
attendees. We had 18 breakout sessions, and at
first glance, evaluations look great!
At our conference, we presented Ashleigh Katt, from Widefield D3,
with the Kay Cessna Award for excellence in
education of students with Emotional and
Behavioral Disabilities. Ashleigh is a k-5
center based SIED classroom teacher. She was
presented with the award by Kay Cessna herself!
She also received a $100 honorarium and a
year's membership to CEC/CCBD.
We announced our scholarships at our conference yesterday, in hopes
that we will get lots of people applying.
